Failed Your WOF? Here’s Why!

With WOFs in mind, we read a slightly scary article the other day about the number of New Zealand vehicles that fail the WOF inspection first time around. It was sobering stuff, and we’re sure it will surprise you as much as it surprised us.
Did you know that in 2019, 41% of vehicles failed the WOF test on the first try? Amazing isn’t it? It just goes to show that many New Zealand motorists wait until the WOF test to find out there’s something wrong with their vehicles instead of talking proactive action and properly maintaining them throughout the year.
A similar survey was carried out in 2017 when 37% of vehicles failed the test first time around. Of those, the most common issue found in failed vehicles was failing steering and suspension components with 468,724 faults. Next up was tyres with 442,832, brakes came in with 316,331, and wipers were fourth with 262,375.
Interestingly, commercial vehicles such as business fleets, taxis, and trucks had a significantly lower first time fail rate. Depending on the type of vehicle, the fail rate was between 17 and 23%.
When you have companies like ours offering affordable car services, and high-quality tyres at a very reasonable price, there’s little to no excuse for so many WOF failures. The thought that about 40% of the vehicles on our roads right now are officially unroadworthy is, as we said before, scary!
