Stop/Start Batteries: AGM vs EFB
Modern vehicles with stop/start technology need a battery built for constant cycling, not a standard battery. We stock and fit both AGM and EFB batteries, and can tell you which one your car needs before you pay for the wrong one.
EFB batteries suit most Japanese and Korean stop/start systems (Toyota, Mazda, Hyundai) and cost less than AGM. AGM batteries are required for European stop/start vehicles (BMW, VW, Mercedes, Audi) and for hybrid 12V systems, and offer a longer lifespan. The rule that matters: if your car came with AGM, it must be replaced with AGM. Downgrading to EFB will make your charging system overwork the battery and shorten its life. European vehicles also need their battery management system (BMS) re-registered after a replacement, which we handle as part of the fit.
