WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENCES IN TREAD PATTERNS ON TYRES?
When going for a warrant there are a few things that you have to follow for NZLTA compliance’s.
There are a few things that Your local warrant technician should look at and know when it comes to tyres how it affects your car, the handling and how it affects your driving.
Lets start of at the bottom, All tyres on the vehicle should be the same size, If you are unsure what sized tyres you currently have on your car its as easy as looking at the tyre for a group of 3 digit numbers. Example being 215/45R17 or like 205/55R16. These will all work UNLESS you have a car that has staggered fitment which ill explain now, Some cars like a Holden Club sport, BMW x5s and Some other European vehicles have what you call a staggered fitment, Which means that the tyres on the front and rear are completely DIFFERENT size, Meaning that the front tyres and rear tyres are different sizes. Example being the fronts are 225/45/17 and the rear tyres are 255/40/17. Even though the rear tyres are wider they are still the same rolling circumference which is perfectly fine.
The next thing that they look for is the load rating of a tyre. Which comes after the size of the tyre. Example of this is 215/45R17 91W. If you are unsure as to what Load ratings mean we have done another blog you can read here https://www.tires.co.nz/news/what-does-your-load-and-speed-rating-mean.
